I think we need to clear some things up here. The difference between Naif, Koil and Radiohead:

1. I might be wrong, but i think Naif & Koil spread their music free for the sake of free music. They hope they can get more merchandise sales & booked shows, while...
2. Radiohead spread their music to sell more albums, merchandise & tours. About a month after the in rainbows pay as you wish launched, they released the physical album that, from what i heard, sold 10 times more than their last album.

I reckon their pay as you wish is a strategy of creating value on Radiohead's music (which was declining), while their thoughts were on making more money from their recorded materials (and optimize all revenue sources), not on 'free music'. It also show that, if people can download free music legally, they will do it happily.

I still think there will be no free music as it's free in free music :D, although i would be glad to find Music Like Water theory become true. However, people can still sell their records, even if, like Kompas said, a single show can pay up their annual record sales (which i doubt, except if their record sales are really really terrible), ...it's all about creating values.

If i'm wrong please educate :D

Cheers!

Apparent;y some local musician has followed this move. Naif, and Koil recently released their album for free. it is said their revenue from selling CDs is very insignificant compared to revenue from stage performances. Single performances can replace a whole somepart or if not all annual CD selling revenue. Kompas wrote about this.
